I woke early and packed up planning to get to Sedbergh mid afternoon as I was meeting my friends Ann and Tim who live in Nottingham. They were driving up to spend the afternoon and evening with me. 😀

Route from Ingleton to Sedbergh

It was a relatively easy day; Twenty five miles and 1,800 feet of climbing. The lane back to High Bentham was lovely but then I got onto the B6480 for a few miles and that was not pleasant.

However as I was leaving High Bentham, a man flagged me down to ask how far I had come. He was a carpenter originally from Manchester and was flying to Albuquerque the following day to ride The Great Divide. This is an off road ride that follows the Continental Divide and starts in Banff and ends on the border of Mexico. A ride I’d like to do someday 😀 We swapped stories and off I went.

My route took me close to Kirby Lonsdale and I stopped off at Devil’s Bridge a 12th century bridge that crosses the River Lune where there was a conveniently located snack bar selling coffee and breakfast sandwiches. A sausage butty and a coffee was ordered and I checked out the historic bridge.

Shortly after my breakfast stop, my route thankfully took me off the main road at Casterton and into one of the most delightful roads I’ve ever cycled on. No traffic, lots of sheep and a few other cyclists.

Sedbergh is in Cumbria and is the official Book town of England, although both Ann and I noted we didn’t see that many book shops. It is also famous for its private school and is a favorite destination for walkers.

I met Ann and Tim in the Black Bull Inn in Sedbergh. My room had a bath so I soaked my tired muscles. It felt so good! We had a lovely dinner in the dining room and met again for breakfast before I left.

Does that really count as herding? 😂
