On Saturday May 4th, I woke to sunny skies. I packed up my camp and set off for Dulverton on the edge of the Exmoor National Park.

Packed and ready to go

Campsite to Dulverton

I had to come up with a new route to get up to Exmoor because I yesterday I had made a diversion from my original route to find a closer campground for the night. My ride up to Dulverton on the edge of Exmoor was beautiful with rolling hills and green fields

Dulverton to Exmoor

I stopped on Dulverton for a cup of tea and realized my phone wasn’t charging from my extra battery. Apparently the phone had water in it and then I discovered the cable was the problem. I luckily was able to find another cable in the Co-op next to the cafe I was in. With that issue solved, I felt confident to start the climb into Exmoor.

The ride through Exmoor was amazing even though I missed the highest point due to my rerouting.

My plan was to descend then stay in a campground at Bishops Lydeard. It was marked on my Gaia maps; however, when I got there the campground didn’t exist and the local pub had no rooms left. I ended up cycling another 8 miles to Wellington, where I stayed in a pub. I forgot that pubs often have live music on a Saturday night and not only was it a Saturday, it was the bank holiday weekend. There was a very loud punk like band playing when I arrived and the music continued until 1:30am! I didn’t get much sleep, but the evening meal and breakfast the following morning were great.

A sample of the music😩
